Addiction
Addiction is a chronic mental health disease that affects brain function, behaviour, and emotional regulation. Substance use disorders and behavioural addictions often develop as a way to manage trauma, anxiety, stress, or life transitions. Over time, these patterns can feel difficult to change despite negative consequences. Evidence-based therapy focuses on understanding underlying causes, strengthening coping skills, and supporting sustainable recovery. With 20 years of experience in residential treatment at Orchard Recovery Centre on Bowen Island, I bring practical expertise and compassionate support to guide individuals through recovery.
Anxiety
Therapy provides a safe space to explore the thoughts, feelings, and triggers that fuel anxiety. Evidence-based approaches, like CBT and mindfulness techniques, help individuals manage worry, regulate emotions, and develop practical coping strategies. Therapy can also address underlying factors such as trauma, stress, or life transitions. With consistent support, clients can reduce anxious patterns, regain confidence, and cultivate a greater sense of calm, balance, and resilience in daily life.
Cancer
Facing cancer can be overwhelming, both physically and emotionally. I’ve seen how diagnosis and treatment affect not just the body, but relationships, identity, and daily life. Therapy provides a safe space to process fear, grief, and uncertainty, build coping skills, and reconnect with hope and purpose. Together, we explore ways to manage stress, navigate life changes, and support resilience, helping you find strength and meaning during this challenging journey.
Depression
Depression is a mental health condition that can affect mood, motivation, and daily functioning. It often leads to feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and disconnection from oneself and others. Therapy provides a safe space to explore underlying emotions, negative thought patterns, and life stressors. Evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, and mindfulness, help build coping strategies, foster emotional resilience, and support meaningful, lasting change in daily life and overall well-being.
Grief
Grief is a natural response to loss, including death, relationship changes, or life transitions. It can cause intense emotions like sadness, anger, or guilt and affect daily life and relationships. Therapy offers a safe space to process these feelings and build coping strategies. With compassionate support, individuals can navigate grief, find connection, and gradually heal, fostering a renewed sense of balance in daily life.
Trauma and PTSD
PTSD and trauma can result from distressing or life-threatening experiences, leaving lasting effects on emotions, thoughts, and daily functioning. Symptoms may include flashbacks, hypervigilance, anxiety, or difficulty managing emotions. Therapy provides a safe, supportive environment to process trauma, build coping strategies, and regain a sense of safety and control. Evidence-based approaches help individuals reduce symptoms, heal from past experiences, and develop resilience for healthier, more connected living.
